“What a milestone for FMA Contracting Pty Ltd in Tennant Creek! 
Since 2023, Director Frank Tarahija has been making a big impact in the Barkly region. After completing his Certificate III in Electrotechnology Electrician, Frank opened FMA, showing how an apprenticeship can build a successful career. In 2024, he welcomed the company’s first Electrical Apprentice, starting FMA’s focus on developing local talent.
Today, FMA employs a mix of qualified tradespeople and six apprentices across Electrotechnology Electrician and Air Conditioning and Refrigeration, all training through Charles Darwin University.
Apprentices gain hands-on experience on real community, commercial and residential projects, learning technical skills, workplace safety and professionalism under the mentorship of experienced staff.

Electrotechnology Electrician: John Norman, Zane Smith, Terrence Brown, Simon Sager (School-Based)
Air Conditioning and Refrigeration: Jayden Braun, Nick Stokes
These apprentices help tackle skilled labour shortages in the Barkly, keeping work local and ensuring projects are delivered by people who understand the region’s environment and culture.
